Past the Shadows

Past the shadows where I stand

I see light across the span

Of reaching arms and wanting heart

Seeking rest, craving warmth

Somewhere out beyond the sky

There is hope that steals my sighs

Rescues me from empty pain

And rebuilds the smiles again

Past the darkness where I dwell

Past the night, past the hell

Of heartache, gray and lonely fear

Past confusion, past the years

To the light I lift my head

Help me rise above this bed

Of bitter heartache, aching past

To a season that will last

A path of brighter melody

Awaited peace and sanctity

Thank You for the light above

Promised hope, promised love

May my weary hands embrace

A higher path, a greater grace

Thank You that You still are there

Past the shadows, past despair

"Every song that I write comes from my own personal experience.  i believe the role of an artist is to interpret reality through a system of beliefs and a long-term seeking of truth, in your own life and in the world at large."  Dan Folgelberg
