I am excited to start a little Potosi talk here on this site! The reason? For the past 3+ years, I have been working on a book about growing up in this amazing little town. I have had an opportunity to get back "home" much more often as a result. In doing so I have had some very nice re-unions with various people and have been able to do and see some things that I had not done even while growing up there! Visiting buildings, homes, churches, cemeteries, businesses and people to get facts and information has been just a whole lot of fun! I've learned much and have been able to either get-to-know or re-get-to-know so many great folks!
Once upon a time not so long ago something just stirred inside me to begin documenting my life story. Since I love photography, I felt it should include MANY photos of both today as well as days gone by. And so I began the journey...writing...traveling south (about an hour from where we live)...writing...taking photos, digging through the library...writing...pulling out boxes of old pictures and scrapbook clippings, making phone calls...writing...driving around town, inquiring with whoever might have information...and did I mention writing?
Our family has gone through quite a number of challenges in the process, including a job transition for my hubby and some constant chronic pain and health issues with my 31 year old daughter who lives at home. We have also recently gotten our house ready and put it on the market as we plan to move out of the city. I battle some auto-immune issues and don't always feel like accomplishing the logistics of keeping this big house cleaned and operating. So...I won't lie - there have been some hurdles in completing this book! Even as I have worked on it, I had no clue how I would get it published or printed, since our income has been quite stretched for the time being.
Just last month I "ran into" (not by accident, I am convinced) an old friend. (Grant it she is anything but old...but we have known each other for at least 3 decades!) We have since re-connected after our lives had gone in different and scattered directions. As we have caught up, she learned of my desires in this book adventure. Lo and behold, she herself has published several beautiful books herself and is very accomplished not only with editing, but in getting books published on Amazon. Now, that is the part I know nothing about as it relates to writing! And so the duo began...she took my hand and said you WILL get this book in print and I WILL walk you through it! And, it will NOT drain your bank account!! And so she has helped me - in the most beautiful and patient way.
I am happy to say that at this point my dear friend has enticed me with further encouragement by having four proof copies printed - real books that I can hold in my hands! (happy dance) Together we have been doing the last minute editing and additions, complete with a beautiful cover! As we come into the finish line, I can say that the fruition of this is just about to fall off the long-developing tree!!! I can hardly wait to get the final copy in my hands and be able to share it with you!!
Stay tuned for further up-dates here. And while you're reading about it, feel free to browse my web-site! Just click on the dash board that includes many blogs and photo galleries, featuring many Potosi shots that will be inside the book's cover once complete.
I will certainly be updating here with historical photos and thoughts as we get close to this dream becoming a reality!
