Welcome to my website!

This site reflects little bursts of inspiration and thought - through writing and photography.  I like to credit anything that blesses you as simply God flowing through me...and anything that doesn't...well, that would just be my mere thinking out loud!  :)

May there be more of God's inspiration than Kim's thoughts...and may you be greatly encouraged and blessed as you browse through this collection of offerings!

Feel free to scroll through the above mini-gallery by placing mouse on the arrows.  (Note: Some devices do not show or allow this option.  Also, some devices such as I-Phones show blog pics separated differently than you will view them on a PC.  I have yet to figure out why, but then my humble technology accomplishments are doing well to even have a blog!)  Check out the gallery of photos if you like color and photography.  At the bottom/left of each page is a small arrow to view previous posts.  There are many.

Cabin fever in Potosi

I love these jewels in the fair town of Potosi!  To the left is the log house that was moved, log by log to the location behind the Austin-Milam-Lucas Store on Jefferson Street along Breton Creek.  The window to the right is a part of the Weber-Russ house that once sat on a farm outside of Potosi.  In 1962, it was disassembled and rebuilt by Clyde Loomis.

Up-coming book will include these keepers!

A little bit o lace on its face!

Just gotta include this amazing house!  Such a beauty!  I always think of it as the Carr home because my friend, Bryan and his family lived there while we were all in school.  It is known as the Edmond Casey House at 103 Market Street.  It is located in the Old Courthouse Square area of town, built in the late 1800's.  The lattice work and big front porch put finished touches on an already grand home.

Some good "folk"

There are certainly some riches in the little community of Hopewell, which is only a short few miles from Potosi.  The story of the Iron Mountain Baby took me to the cemetery there, where he is buried.

What a tale - of a lost and found baby who many say was thrown off a train and raised by a loving family!  I even ran into a couple of men who knew the history about as first hand as anyone could!  It was a fun fall afternoon last year.

This is a favorite of Potosi area story-tellers, most likely because it is certainly unique and comes with a good dose of how loving country-raised Americans handled problems in the "good ole days"!  I like to think that these values remain a trade-mark of the community's  good citizens.

I hope you will enjoy reading this story when my book about growing up in Potosi comes out soon!  More to come on the specifics!  In the meantime, I hope to post more previews as we count down to release time!!

Potosi charm

Another Potosi charmer!  Built in 1898-99, this house was owned by the president of an early bank in Potosi named Mr. James A. Headlee.  It's grandeur, structure, stained glass, large porch and many windows make this home one that turns heads.  The garage/shed was once a carriage house and it originally had a picket fence around the yard.

It is a delight to see this kind of architecture in this era.  It is rare to see the kind of strong and character-filled buildings today that were built at that time.  I am thankful that Potosi has many of these gracing the streets of its community.

Waiting for My Dearie

May 16, 2015  •  Leave a Comment

Yep, that was me there "Waiting for My Dearie" in the middle of the glenn of "Brigadoon" back in 1975!  I had the pleasure of playing the part of Fiona McClaren.  It was a highlight of High School for me, directed by Steve Mining, who now produces plays nation-wide, including one that came to the Muny just last year.  He taught us so much about acting and inspired me musically as well.

One of my favorite vocal teachers recently told me that it was her favorite musical ever done at Potosi High School.  What a kind compliment!  Of course to me it was wonderful, but it is really hard to know just how the audience might have enjoyed it.  I have tried to find a copy of the video, but to no avail, so perhaps I will never have the privilege to see for myself.  Maybe that is best, as I will simply maintain every good memory of an experience that so encouraged the direction of my music career!

Stained beautifully

Another gorgeous stained glass masterpiece in what used to be the Methodist Church in Potosi...now the Belgrade State Bank.  I wonder if the patrons there today notice just how beautiful the architecture and colorful the windows are!  I'm sure many do.  It seems in 1825, when this building was constructed there was much more attention to detail, even though the cost at the time surely was hard to justify.  How wonderful it is that these have been preserved!

If man can create something so magnificent as this, imagine what kind of God we serve who called the universe together and causes it to hang in space!  The same God who designed the human body to function and move and - multiply!  A Master Creator for sure!  This beautiful glass only begins to "point" to the infinite artistry of the Maker of talent!

It was kind of God to allow us the joy of His endless gifts to mankind, but also kind of Him to allow creative people the ability to make even beautifully "stained" things that are a delight to our senses and take our breath away!

A colorful Potosi!

This is one of many beautiful stained glass windows from the St. James Catholic Church in town.  I was mesmerized by the color and artistry.  More to come for sure!

Beauty and the Barns!

Potosi has some exceptionally picturesque farm land and photo-esque out-buildings!  I so enjoyed shooting some of these!  Reminders of days-gone-by as well as a kudos to the hard-working farmers today who still push the plow and make a living the hard, but American way!  One cannot go far from town to see a few of these.

Pull up a chair and do a little grazing here, if you like!  You can take a country drive without moving away from the screen!

Some Potosi cuteness!

All these home have a story!  I would love to write more on the history of these quaint and charm-filled places!  For now, here are a few photos coming your way.  Many more will be in the book that will follow in the days ahead!

In the meantime if any of you have stories about these homes, I would love to read them, collect them, and perhaps one day write more about them!  Each front porch and stained glass window has a tale to share!

Feel free to comment on these pages as well.  Just click on the comment button at the top of each blog post and write away!
